On this day, in 1703, Forty-six of the Forty-seven Ronin, led by Oishi Yoshio, commited seppuku in Edo after avenging the death of their master, Daimyo of Ako Asano Naganori. The Forty-seventh Ronin lived and was pardoned by the Shogun (presumably because of his young age). If you don't know this story, look it up. Seriously.
